A lack of competency during skills usage amongst EMT-Basics and laypeople can have serious consequences when it comes to effectively intervening in attempts at saving lives. This is especially true in high-stakes or time-sensitive situations. Examples of these high-stake and time-sensitive situations are when EMT-Basics are responsible for the transfer of patients in ambulances where their skills do not get used daily, yet emergency situations can arise at any point.
